Community Service Opportunity!
Ecole Toussaint Louverture School in East Orange, NJ is holding its annual Career Day on Friday, April 3, 2009.
The goal of Career Day is to have the students interact with a wide variety of professionals and occupational groups. This will create an understanding that will help them prepare for their future career.
Louverture is currently seeking volunteers to serve as speakers for students in grades 1 to 5. The time commitment will be approximately 3 hours in the morning (9am-12pm). Speakers would share the type of work that is involved in their field. If interested, please contact Grace Gordon at 973-266-2951.

Serving Young Heroes: Guiding Children/Youth through Military Deployment

Where: Chancellor’s Suite, University Center
Speaker Rachel Lyons, County 4-H agent - Operation: Military Kids will provide information, video and resources for parents/guardians, teachers, counselors, and social workers working with young students dealing with the affects of military deployment.

A very warm congratulations to Xi Gamma member, Antonio Totino, who was honored by the Alberto Italian Studies Institute with three scholarhips. Antonio was the recipient of the UNICO Passaic Valley Chapter Scholarhip, the Ciccolini Scholarship, and the Nicastro/Coccia Scholarship for Educators.

Back-to-School Fashion Show & Dinner
The College of Education and Human Services is holding its Second Annual Back to School Fashion Show on Wednesday, October 1, 2008 from 6:30pm-9pm. This year a hot dinner will be provided for the same price! Students pay $5 (Card swipers will be available for students to swipe their SHU ID). Non-students pay $10.
If you so wish, for $5 more you can purchase 15 raffle tickets for a chance to win one of the many prizes offered.
This professional development program will go over smart career fashions for teachers in the field while offering attendees an opportunity to sit together, network and have a nice dinner. More importantly, proceeds of this event will go towards a scholarship for Education students in memory of SEA Pirate & KDP member, Mary Jennings.
Honor Cord Service Points will be given to KDP members who volunteer or attend the event. Please sign the KDP sheet at the ticket table as proof.

It is time to select Xi Gamma’s Officers for 2008-2010. Xi Gamma is requesting nominations for active status KDP Xi Gamma members who would like to gain experience as well as benefit from serving as officers. Nominations can be made either by mailing the form sent to your address, calling 973-761-9661, or replying to the nomination e-mail sent to you by arochoom@shu.edu . Forms are also available at the front desk of the Dean's Suite - Jubilee Hall, 4th floor. Members have the option to nominate themselves. Nominations must be submitted by Wednesday, August 27th.

Earn Honor Cord Service Points!
KDP Xi Gamma members who are completing their graduate programs and are already Seton Hall Alumni are eligible to receive Honor Cord Service points by becoming Pirate Mentors. This is an excellent opportunity to give back to the Seton Hall Community and assist current students/alumni who are in or interested in your career field.
Participants are required to already be an SHU alumnus in order to qualify to be a Pirate Mentor.
What is a Pirate Mentor?
As a Mentor, you will connect with current students and fellow alumni to share information about careers. Pirate Mentors serve as industry experts and role models on career related issues.
What Does a Pirate Mentor do?
As a Pirate Mentor, you will control the number of people who may contact you, the specific information to be released to them, and how you want to be contacted (e-mail or phone). Mentoring is a rewarding experience and keeps you connected to the University in a vital way!
